A cake decorating box is one order with everything you need to decorate a cake by hand: a ready cake, coloured cream and something to sprinkle on top. No baking, and no hunting for tools in three different shops. Here's what a good box should include, what to check before you order, and how to pick a size.
What should be in the box?
- A ready cake: baked and covered in cream, so you can start straight away.
- Coloured cream: already in piping bags, with no colours to mix.
- Toppings: such as pearls and sprinkles.
If something's missing, you'll have to buy it separately. A plain cake with no cream, for example, adds a step before you can decorate. We explain the difference in plain cake ready to decorate.
5 things to check before you order
- Is the cake already covered in cream? That's easier, especially for a first try or with kids.
- How many colours do you get? Two or three suit a small cake. A big one needs more, especially if you're decorating together.
- Can you choose the filling? You'll be eating it in the end.
- How many does it serve? Check before you pick a size.
- Does it deliver to your city? And check the delivery time if it's for a party.

Cupcake box or cake?
Our kit doesn't come as individual cupcakes, but the cup size does the same job: a small cake in a cup with 3 colours and 2 jars, so everyone decorates their own. For small designs to try, see cupcake decorating for kids.
3 ways to use it
- As a gift: for someone who loves making things by hand. The martini glass already looks like a present.
- As a kids' activity: one cup per child, with the full plan in kids' cake decorating party.
- At a get-together: share a 6 or 8 inch cake, with each person decorating their own side.

FAQ
How is a decorating box different from a normal cake?
A normal cake arrives decorated. With a decorating box, the cake arrives white with the cream and toppings, and you decorate it.
Do I need to buy any tools?
No. The piping bags and the jars of pearls and sprinkles come with the cake.
Which size is best for a first try?
The cup or the 4 inch. The surface is small, so it doesn't take much to look good.
Does it make a good gift?
Yes, especially for someone who enjoys making things by hand, or for a family with kids.
