Photo Cakes: How to Order a Cake with Your Picture (or Your Own Design)

A photo cake is one of the most personal ways to celebrate a birthday or a graduation: the guest of honour is literally the star of the party. At Avon Cake you can pick a ready design and upload the photo when you order, or build a custom cake yourself and print your photo on it. Here's what each design asks you to upload, plus tips so the picture comes out well.

Two ways to get a photo cake

1. A ready design: choose the cake and upload the photo on the product page (some also take a name or an age). Quickest if you like the design as it is.
2. Design Your Cake: choose the shape, filling, colour and message yourself, then add your photo in the Printing step. Best for specific colours or your own idea.

Ready designs that print your photo

1. Birthday Joy Cake

Our most-ordered photo cake. The Birthday Joy Cake is a 6-inch vintage-style cake with a party backdrop carrying the guest of honour's name and photo.

• You upload: the person's photo, plus a photo or a name for the second spot. Writing on the cake is optional.
• Colours: light green with pink, or light green with blue.

2. Party Star Cake

The Party Star Cake has balloons, stars and sparkle, with the birthday person's photo in the middle. It comes in four sizes, so it suits bigger parties.

• You upload: a photo of the party star.
• Sizes: 6 inch (4 people), 8 (6), 10 (8) and 12 (10).

3. Royal Blue Cake

The Royal Blue Cake is a royal-blue vintage design with a photo-and-name backdrop. Lovely for a birthday, or to welcome a new baby with their first photo.

• You upload: the same two photo fields as the Birthday Joy Cake, plus optional writing on the cake.
• Size: 6 inch (4 people).

4. Hello Kitty Package

The Hello Kitty Package is a party in one order: a 6-inch pink Hello Kitty cake with a backdrop, a HAPPY BIRTHDAY crown and an Avon specialty coffee box.

• You upload: a photo or a name for the backdrop, plus the person's photo (optional).

5. Celebration of a Lifetime Cake

The Celebration of a Lifetime Cake has a cupcake-sized 2-inch tier on top of a 6-inch tier that serves 4, with the child's photo and their age behind them.

• You upload: the child's photo (it's adjusted to fit the cake).
• You type: the age to place behind the child.

6. Birthday Ring Box

The Birthday Ring Box is a 2-inch mini cake with the child's photo in a ring box, sold per piece. Each serves one, so it makes a sweet party favour.

• You upload: the child's photo (it's adjusted to fit the cake).
• Colours: light pink, sky blue, light yellow, white or light green.

7. Graduation Certificate Cake

The Graduation Certificate Cake is a rectangular graduation cake with graduation details and a board for photos. It serves about 7.

• You upload: a rectangular graduation photo.

Tips for a photo that looks good on a cake

• Sharp and well lit: daylight or bright light, with the face clear and not cropped off.
• Use the original: upload from your camera roll, not a screenshot or a heavily cropped copy.
• One or two people: a close-up prints more clearly than a distant group shot.
• No small text: small writing inside a photo won't be readable on a cake. Use the writing field for names and messages.
• Check what the product asks for: the Graduation Certificate Cake wants a rectangular photo, and children's photos are adjusted to fit the cake.
• Your own photos: pick a photo of you or your loved ones. If you want a character theme, see our ready-made kids' character cakes.

Delivery and same-day orders

• Cities: we deliver in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Khobar, Al-Ahsa, Makkah, Madinah, Buraydah and Unaizah for 29 SAR, free on orders from 300 SAR. Or pick up from a branch in every city except Unaizah.
• Time slots: 9am–2pm, 2pm–7pm or 7pm–midnight.
• Same day: regular sizes can be booked for the same day while a slot is open, and the 12-inch size needs to be booked the day before. Outside Riyadh, the morning slot must be booked by 11pm the day before.
• Have the photo ready: most of these designs require one, so keep it on your phone before you start.

Can I print any photo on the cake?
Your personal photos, yes, on the ready designs or through the Printing step in Design Your Cake.

What's the difference between a ready photo cake and Design Your Cake?
A ready design is fixed and you upload your photo into it. In Design Your Cake you choose the shape, filling, colour and message yourself and add the photo in the Printing step.

How many people does a photo cake serve?
The Birthday Joy and Royal Blue cakes are 6 inch and serve about 4. The Party Star Cake goes up to 12 inch (about 10), the Graduation Certificate Cake serves about 7, and each Birthday Ring Box serves one.

Can I add a name as well as the photo?
Yes, on designs with a writing field, such as Birthday Joy and Royal Blue, and in Design Your Cake, up to 25 characters.

Can I order a photo cake for today?
Regular sizes, yes, while a slot is open. Large sizes such as 12 inch need to be booked the day before.
